On this day in 1676—after provoking a war with the Indians, rousing up an army of rebels against the governor, and burning Jamestown—Nathaniel Bacon died suddenly of dysentery. The humorous picture above, from PerezHamilton.com, is not actually of Bacon, though. Sadly, there are no known images of him.
