This Day (Death Stare Edition)

October 23rd, 2012 by Brendan Wolfe · No Comments

Happy birthday to Turner Ashby. The future Confederate general was born at Rose Bank in Fauquier County on this day in 1828. During the Civil War he served as a cavalry general under Stonewall Jackson and was killed in the Shenandoah Valley in 1862. That’s him up there—dead. And if you dig that, you might like his dead horse’s painted hoof.

Also born this day: prolific writer and suffragist Molly Elliot Seawell (1860) and newspaper publisher and college president John Stewart Bryan (1871).
